   Hi. When I had a chihuahua he was pretty good about going to the bathroom. At first he made some mistakes in the house (the mistakes are so tiny because they are so tiny), but I took him out every couple of hours. If he looked like he was about to go, I would quickly take him outside. Taking him out often, and then praising him after he went, seemed to work pretty well. Chihuahuas are very loyal to their masters and will actually choose one person to attach to, in most cases. They want to please you.
   
   I did try one of those pads you keep in the house, my dog did not want to use it. They are small, so if your puppy will not use the wee wee pad, you are going to have to take them out often because their bladders are not that big.
   
   Some people crate train. I personally do not use crates, but I heard that works well also.

   I agree...take the dog out as often as possible for the first week or two, and promptly praise and/or offer a treat whenever the puppy goes in the right place. They learn VERY quickly with this method...I have a dog that I got at six months old, she'd been badly abused and didn't even know how to walk on a leash, but after two weeks she was completely house trained.

   I've had two chihuahuas who did respond well to the training pads, but the one that I have now has never understood what to do with them. They can be a useful thing for young puppies simply to give them the idea that there is a right place and a wrong place to go.
   
   To train them to go outside, start recognizing the times when the puppy will need to go. That will likely be the first thing in the morning, every two hours or so and every time he eats. Take him outside during those times and then reward him with a little treat or just a little extra attention whenever he goes.
   
   Chihuahuas are very smart dogs- it shouldn't take more than two weeks to create a very strong instinct to go outside to do his business. The first chihuahua that I ever had was trained in one weekend, but generally I've found that about two weeks is pretty normal.
